Rocklin, California could be the perfect relocation community for you here in Northern California!

Neighboring Roseville, CA to the southwest and Granite Bay to the east, Rocklin is beautiful part of the Greater Sacramento area that offers so much to so many! Located in Placer county and with a population of just under 60,000 this bustling town had humble beginnings as an old Indian Settlement and then, like so many parts of the Greater Sacramento area it grew exponentially during the California Gold Rush. The area was known as Secret Ravine was mined not just for Gold but then later on granite – some of which was used in the base of the California Capitol Building in Sacramento!

Rocklin’s quarries previously used Ox to haul out granite before the arrival of the mighty Transcontinental railroad, which arrived in the area in the mid 1860’s in the form of a track extension. This was initially used for water and refueling by the Central Pacific Railroad where it named the area “Rocklin” after it’s granite quarry. The US Post Office opened in 1868 and thus Rocklin was on the map! However Rocklin wasn’t officially incorporated until 1893.

The railroad played an important part of Rocklin’s economy until in 1906 the Central Pacific Railroad Company moved it’s site to neighboring Roseville where it remains until this day. Another interesting part of Rocklin’s history is that there is an area of Rocklin known as “China Gardens” which was named after a group of Chinese railroad workers who moved to the area in 1869 and grew vegetables to sell to residents in the area.

Today the town has seen huge growth since the early 1990’s where it’s population was just under 20,000. The economy continued to grow and diversify with Rocklin being home to several company headquarters. However, after a long history of granite mining, mining operations ended in 2004, ending an era which was such a huge part of the towns history. Rocklin benefits from having a thriving Chamber of Commerce that contains over 700 local business members too.

Rocklin is well served by education establishments and has eleven elementary schools, two middle schools, two high schools as well as two college campuses; Sierra College and William Jessup University respectively. It has plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment options for residents and visitors to enjoy too. It is home to what is known locally as “Toy Row” along Interstate 80 where there is a local antique mall and along Highway 65 is the regional shopping center – Blue Oaks Town Center.

Residents of Rocklin need never be bored as there are plenty of museums as well as local arts programs to get stuck into, let alone plenty of local sport from the parks and recreation department as well as some excellent Golf!
