When house hunting, it’s easy to get so excited that you blurt something out when you probably shouldn’t. Why does it matter? Anything that you say when house hunting can and will be used against you.
The first thing you should never say to the agent or the seller when viewing a home is, “This is my dream home!” Just like in a game of poker, you don’t want to tip your hand and let the seller know how excited you are about the home. If you do, you won’t have any negotiating power.
The second thing you should never say is, “That furniture is hideous!” If you badmouth the furniture or the decor, then you can be sure that the seller will consider another offer over yours.
Finally, don’t ever tell the seller, “You’ll never get that price.” Don’t worry about the price of the home—leave that to your agent. If you don’t, you run the risk of looking like an amateur buyer.
If you try your best not to blurt these three things out to the seller who is showing you their home, then you’re already on the right track to landing that home of your dreams. If you have any other questions or you’re looking to buy or a sell a home, please give me a call. I’d be happy to help.
